OPEN CALL
LAB I: UNTOLD STORIES
Location: Circus Factory, Centre Park Road, Cork, Ireland // Date: June 5 – 12, 2017
“If the very important secret is not solved, then the readers will be frustrated. That is not what I want. But if a certain kind of secret stays secret, it's a very sound curiosity.” (Haruki Murakami)
The moment it is revealed to the audience that there is something they don’t know, inherently suggests that there is something for them to find out.
This can evoke feelings such as curiosity, wonder and jealousy and allow for a multi-layered artist - audience relationship to develop.
We would like to propose an investigation into the role of secrets within a contemporary performance context. We will use circus as the primary language with which we conduct this investigation.
The following question will act as a starting point to the research process:
"How can the act of strategically concealing or revealing information be used as a tool to trigger curiosity and activate the spectators imagination?"
